Rural Nonprofits
Strategic advisory for community health organizations, development agencies, Community Action Agencies, and faith-based providers that need funding systems, governance infrastructure, and compliance support, not merely a grant writer.
Organizations We Work With
We serve rural nonprofit organizations across three primary subsectors:
- Healthcare. FQHCs, free clinics, community health centers, mental health organizations, rural health networks, and private nonprofit hospitals.
- Community Development. Community Action Agencies, community development corporations, Habitat affiliates, and community revitalization organizations.
- Faith-Based. Churches with community programs, parachurch organizations, pregnancy centers, and faith-based social service providers.
A minimum gross annual revenue of $250,000 applies, with flexibility for mission-driven organizations with strong community reputation. Decision-makers are executive directors, CEOs, presidents, pastors, and senior ministers.
When Organizations Call
Nonprofit leaders are deeply mission-driven and often articulate their need as grant writing when the actual constraint is a fundraising system, outdated governance, or compliance exposure they cannot fully name. Our diagnostic process, starting with the free assessment, is designed to surface the real problem before proposing a solution.
Acute Triggers
- Failed grant applications or rejection from a major foundation funder
- Audit findings from HHS, USDA, or a state agency
- Incoming federal funding announcements with narrow application windows
- Leadership transitions in the executive director role
Chronic Triggers
- Funding concentration risk, with too much revenue from one source
- No structured approach to federal and foundation prospecting
- Board governance questions and succession concerns
- CSBG, Head Start, or tripartite board compliance complexity for Community Action Agencies
A Note on Faith-Based Organizations
Faith-based organizations typically prefer project-based sprint engagements over retainers, with return engagements as additional needs arise rather than continuous advisory relationships. Our engagement model accommodates this preference directly; there is no pressure toward retainer arrangements when project-based work better fits the organization's rhythm and decision-making culture.
Faith-based grant applications require particular care around federal church-state restrictions and foundation eligibility requirements. Our experience with faith-based community programs informs all engagements in this space.
